Droppin' Science Mondays w/ Chris Read, Matman & Daredevil Next Monday @ Proud, Camden

London has a new home for hip hop on Monday nights!

FREE ENTRY ALL NIGHT!!

We're back again to tear the roof off Proud Camden's South gallery! this coming Monday we are joined by special guest DJ Chris Read (BBE/Classic Material) alongside resident DMC/ITF Champs Daredevil & Matman!

Anyone who has been to our nights before knows the drill - we rock the party HARD with a fast paced selection of Hip Hop from ALL eras, laced with occasional funk & soul bangers & whatever else we feel like playing!

Check out the pics from last week here: http://on.fb.me/P7cKBn

About Chris Read:

Chris, a collector of hip hop, funk, soul boogie and related beats and jazz based music since the late eighties came to prominence as a club DJ through his involvement in Substance (one of the UK's largest and longest running hip hop and funk nights) and his 2 year spell as mix DJ on BBC Radio 1Xtra. In recent years a steady output of high profile mix albums has allowed Chris to DJ around the globe. However, it is Chris's broad musical taste and knowledge and ability to throw the unexpected into the mix that have sealed his reputation as a popular club DJ.

In 2010, Chris was named as one of nine 'Stars of the Future' by Mixcloud and ranked a respectable #17 in the site's top 100 DJs of 2010. In 2011, Chris joined the roster of heavyweight labels BBE and Breakin Bread, releasing 2 official mix albums for the former and 2 seven inch singles for the latter.

Classic Material x Normski x Foot Patrol Launch 1.08.12

Next Thursday I have the honour of djing at the launch party for this dope T-shirt collaboration between Classic Material, Normski & Foot Patrol. Come down to snap up one of the limited edition tees, drink free beer & get down to the sounds of myself, Mr Thing, and Classic Material's Chris Read & Nick Armitage (aka Nickname)!

Normski exploded onto the public stage in the early 90s as presenter of the groundbreaking BBC2 programmes ‘Def 2’ and ‘Dance Energy’, broadcasting the previously under-represented elements of the UK’s black music & dance music scenes to a new audience. For many years prior to this, Normski had been documenting UK club culture and the rise of hip hop culture in the UK through photography. As a key figure in the UK’s early hip hop community, Normski enjoyed unrivaled access to the rising stars of the home grown scene and high profile touring acts from the US. Utilising the iconic imagery of Normski’s photography dating from the mid to late 1980s, Footpatrol is pleased to present a collaboration with Normski and partners Classic Material, a London based collective of music makers, designers and photographers. The collaboration takes the form of six limited edition t-shirts featurng five of Normski’s most iconic photographs featuring images of artists Big Daddy Kane, MC Lyte, Kool Moe Dee, Public Enemy’s Flavor Flav and the UK’s Demon Boyz. A sixth t-shirt bearing the Classic Material logo completes the collection.
